Exhale
Іnteractive photo installation / 2025
The installation "Exhale" combines the image of the Mariupol carousel with fragile paper windmills placed on top of it. These windmills are transformed photographs-memories sent by the participants of the open call.
In my artistic practice, I often turn to the theme of cyclicality, the continuity of natural processes and human life. The carousel is a symbol of childhood and the continuity of everyday life. In the photograph taken in winter in a thick fog, it seems to preserve the warmth and presence of generations, becoming a background and support for other fragments of memory.
Each paper windmill is a memory that can be revived with your own breath. If inhalation is a moment of acceptance and filling, then exhalation is a moment of letting go and renewal.
A slow and deep exhalation activates the parasympathetic nervous system - an internal mechanism of calming and restoration. The installation invites you to combine the act of contemplating a work of art with the technique of calming the nervous system (straw breathing).
The project is organized by the TU Platform in cooperation with the NGO VYVEZEMO!
